Pikachu is the face of Pokémon. It appears on the logo, on the merchandise, on the anime, and on just about every major milestone the franchise has ever celebrated. It's no surprise, then, that Pikachu has been printed on more Pokémon TCG cards than almost any other Pokémon — over 220 unique cards and counting since the very first Base Set in 1996.
Whether you're a lifelong collector hunting for a rare promo, a parent buying a gift for a Pokémon-obsessed child, or someone who just wants to understand which Pikachu cards are worth something, this guide has you covered. We'll walk through every major era of Pikachu cards — newest first — highlight the most iconic prints, and point you to where you can pick them up at Titan Cards.
Why Pikachu Cards Are So Collectible
Pikachu isn't just popular — it's culturally irreplaceable. As Ash's partner in the original anime series, Pikachu holds deep nostalgic value for the generation that grew up with Pokémon in the late 90s and early 2000s. That same generation are now adults with disposable income, and they're buying cards.
From a collecting standpoint, Pikachu cards tick every box: enormous variety (220+ prints across 25+ years), a wide price range (from a few pounds to hundreds for a Special Illustration Rare), cross-generational appeal, and a strong investment track record. Rare Pikachu cards consistently hold and grow in value, making them one of the most dependable collector's items in the hobby.
The Scarlet & Violet Era
The Scarlet & Violet era has given Pikachu some of its finest-ever card art, with the ex mechanic unlocking jaw-dropping Special Illustration Rare prints that have dominated collector wishlists since 2023.
Pokémon 151 (2023)
Pokémon 151 celebrated the original Kanto Pokédex with new artwork for all 151 original Pokémon. Pikachu appeared in two versions: the standard Pikachu 025/165 Common, and the stunning chase card — the Pikachu 173/165 Illustration Rare — featuring a beautifully painterly full illustration unlike anything in previous sets.
Shop Pokémon 151 Singles →Surging Sparks (2024)
Surging Sparks was the most exciting Pikachu-themed set in years, centred on Pikachu ex in four distinct rarities. The crown jewel — the Pikachu ex 238/191 Special Illustration Rare — features ukiyo-e woodblock print artwork inspired by 17th-century Japanese art. At launch it was trading close to $500, and demand has remained strong. The set also included a Double Rare 057/191, a Full Art Ultra Rare 219/191, and a Hyper Rare / Gold Secret Rare 247/191.
Shop Surging Sparks Singles →Prismatic Evolutions (2025)
Prismatic Evolutions brought Pikachu ex back alongside the beloved Eeveelution family. The Pikachu ex 028/131 Double Rare has been popular with both players and collectors, while the Pikachu ex 179/131 Hyper Rare features an all-gold foil treatment that makes it one of the most visually striking Pikachu cards in the modern era.
Shop Prismatic Evolutions Singles →The Sword & Shield Era
The Sword & Shield era took Pikachu to new heights. Vivid Voltage (2020) was the Pikachu set of this generation, with Gigantamax Pikachu as its mascot. The Pikachu VMAX 044/185 captures Pikachu's enormous Gigantamax form in one of the most striking Pokémon card illustrations of the era. The Pikachu V Full Art 170/185 is an equally popular companion piece.
The SWSH Promo Series produced three collectible Pikachu cards that are currently in stock at Titan Cards: the Pikachu SWSH234 Promo, the Pikachu V SWSH285 Promo, and the rarer Pikachu V SWSH198 Ultra Rare Promo.
Celebrations (2021) marked Pokémon's 25th anniversary and produced some of the most beloved Pikachu cards of the modern era. The Surfing Pikachu VMAX 009/025 is the standout — combining the all-time classic Surfing Pikachu artwork with VMAX power. It's joined in the anniversary set by the Flying Pikachu V 006/025, the Pikachu 005/025 Rare Holo, the Japanese Birthday Pikachu 007/025, the Pikachu VMAX SWSH062 Promo, and the remarkable Pikachu V-Union SWSH139–142 — a 4-card set where all cards connect to form a single piece of artwork.
Crown Zenith closed out the era with the Pikachu 160/159 Secret Rare — numbered beyond the official set count, in a tradition that dates back to the Black & White era.
Shop In-Stock SWSH Pikachu Promos →The Sun & Moon Era
The Sun & Moon era delivered some of the most exciting Pikachu moments in modern TCG history. Ash's Pikachu cards from the I Choose You! movie tie-in remain hugely popular — the Ash's Pikachu SM108 Movie Promo was released exclusively alongside the animated film, while a PSA 10 Gem Mint graded version is the premium collector's pick.
The Pikachu & Zekrom GX Tag Team from Team Up is a standout — available as the in-set Ultra Rare 33/181, the stunning full-art SM168 promo, and a PSA 10 graded version for serious collectors. The Pikachu SM162 Holo Promo PSA 9 from the Team Up blister and the Pikachu 30/111 from Crimson Invasion are charming and affordable additions to any collection.
Detective Pikachu (2019) produced 18 uniquely 3D-rendered cards tied to the live-action film — an art direction unlike anything else in TCG history. The entire set is available as singles at Titan Cards.
Also currently in stock: the Pikachu 026/069 C Japanese from the beloved Eevee Heroes set (S6A) — one of the most charming Japanese-exclusive sets ever produced, themed around the Eeveelution family. At under £2, it's one of the most affordable Pikachu cards you'll find.
Buy Eevee Heroes Pikachu (JP) →The XY Era
The XY era is underrated for Pikachu collectors. XY Evolutions (2016) recreated the original Base Set aesthetic with loving attention to detail, producing two beloved Pikachu cards: the Pikachu 35/108 Common — a nostalgic nod to the original 1999 illustration — and the Flying Pikachu 110/108 Secret Rare, reimagining the classic balloon illustration with updated holofoil beyond the set count.
The XY era also gave us the beloved Japanese Pikachu in a poncho promo series, where Pikachu appeared dressed as various Pokémon including Rayquaza, Gengar, and Charizard — charming, affordable collector's pieces that remain popular today.
The EX & Black & White Eras
The EX era brought gold star cards, and Pikachu got one of the best: the Gold Star Pikachu from EX Holon Phantoms (2006) — the very first Shiny Pikachu card ever printed in English, featuring Pikachu's rare lighter-coloured shiny form. Graded copies have fetched thousands of pounds and it remains one of the true grail cards from this era. Titan Cards also stocks the charming Pikachu 60/106 from EX Emerald for collectors building a complete run.
The Black & White Base Set (2011) holds one of the hobby's most interesting Pikachu curiosities: the Pikachu 115/114 Secret Rare — numbered beyond the official set count, available as a PSA 8 graded copy at Titan Cards. The over-number Secret Rare status is a genuine talking point for collectors and a wonderful piece of TCG trivia.
The Original Era: Base Set to Neo
Pikachu's debut in the 1996 Japanese Base Set (and the 1999 English Base Set) is where it all started. The original Base Set Pikachu is a common card, but it carries enormous sentimental weight — it's the card that started the obsession for millions of collectors worldwide. A first edition copy in Near Mint condition is worth considerably more than the unlimited print.
The Jungle set brought a new Pikachu illustration, and the Wizards Black Star Promo series introduced the beloved Surfing Pikachu and Flying Pikachu — designs so iconic they've been reprinted in anniversary sets decades later. The Flying Pikachu, lifted into the air by a cluster of balloons, became one of the most charming illustrations in the game's history, inspiring the Celebrations Flying Pikachu V over twenty years later.
The Rarest & Most Valuable Pikachu Cards Ever Made

Logan Paul bought the PSA 10 copy for over $5 million in 2021, then sold it at Goldin Auctions in February 2026 for over $16 million — the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold.

Last Sale: $3,000,0003. Gold Star Pikachu — EX Holon Phantoms (2006)

High Grade: £3,000 – £8,000+4. Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rare — Surging Sparks (2024)
The modern era benchmark card for serious Pikachu collectors. The ukiyo-e woodblock artwork is unlike anything else in the game, and strong demand has kept values elevated since launch. Keep an eye on Titan Cards for restocks.
Current Market: ~$290 – $310Pikachu has appeared on over 221 different cards in the Pokémon TCG, making it one of the most-printed Pokémon in the game's history. This number covers only the main TCG — counting every regional variant, promo reprint, and promotional product card pushes the true total significantly higher.
